Nowadays, since students spend more time in school, it’s getting important to learn the subject that is useful to them, In British Columbia, arts is not a mandatory subject to learn. However, there are people who argue that arts is an essential subject that students have to learn in school but other people claim that learning arts is a waste of their time.
Learning arts in school is a waste of time. Unlike any other academic subject, it doesn’t help to get a job, it is not an academic subject that people can use the skills they learn in school unless people want to be a designer. Likewise, many universities don’t even look at art grades, which illustrates that being good at art is not important and it’s not students’ priority to study compared to other subjects such as English, Math, and Science. Especially, people have their own interest in art, but having classes is forcing students to draw with the same topic to every student so that the students who like art want to refuse the class. Thus, schools should not teach art as a mandatory subject.
Nonetheless, there are many reasons to learn art in school. Learning art increases creativity, which many jobs require. There are many genres of art, but similarity, all of them require their own creativity to draw their own painting, which is a sophisticated ability that most companies like. Moreover, the school provides various subjects to realize students’ interests which is why learning arts is not a waste of time.
In my perspective, students have to learn art in school. When I was in middle school, I didn’t like drawing arts but only took it because it was a necessary subject to learn to graduate, but, as a result, it expanded my ideas by having multi-dimensions of objects and views which was very helpful in studying worldwide issues. Therefore, I definitely agree that art is an essential subject to learn so students have to learn art in school.
