Who is most at fault for Juliet’s Death?

Do you believe in love at first sight? This book, Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare, is about the death of two young lovers. Numerous factors lead to the death of Romeo and Juliet. Many people can blame. However, ultimately the person most responsible is Friar Laurence. In this book, Friar Laurence is the only well-disposed Romeo and Juliet. Also, he is the holy man that Romeo and Juliet trust and respect by the other characters. He is a friend of Romeo and Juliet. So Friar Laurence is the only leader to them but according to this book, Juliet is dead which means he is not a good leader. Thus, Friar Laurence is a factor of Juliet’s death.

Friar Laurence is a holy man who is believable and reliable to Juliet. He seems to be a good leader of Romeo and Juliet but in fact, he encourages Romeo and Juliet’s passionate love for his own ends. He knows what early marriage causes in their life. While he is planning, he feels that marriage is too fast and it releases too many issues in their life. For the first time, he knows Romeo’s feelings keep changing and he can’t trust Romeo’s convincing. “Is Rosaline, that thou didst love so dear, / So soon forsaken? Young men’s love then lies. / Not truly in their heart, but in their eyes.”(2.3.67-69) But for his own goal, to solve the feuds of Montague and Capulet. He has a reason to encourage Romeo and Juliet’s, passionate love. He believes that he’s helping poor children for them. “For this alliance may so happy prove. / To turn your households’ rancor to pure love.”(2.3.94-95) That is how he encourages Romeo and that effect Juliet. Hence, Friar Laurence makes Juliet to die. Juliet is so young, she is only 13 years old. It’s hard to judge right or wrong. She is following what the adviser, Friar Laurence says so it’s not Juliet’s fault for suicide. For this reason, Friar Laurence exploits Juliet and that causes her to die.

One of the big reasons for Juliet’s death is the specific plan of Friar Laurence that leads to her death. He tells Juliet to marry Paris and drink a potion when she is alone. Then, her body seems like death. She will stay at the vault of Capulet and while she is in the vault,

Friar Laurence will send the letter to Romeo that she’s not really dead. The plan influenced Juliet to have a weak mindset. The plan is too dangerous. She worries if the potion is poison and aftereffect. “And this shall free thee from this present shame, / If no inconstant toy nor womanish fear./Abate thy valour in the acting it.”(4.1.119-121) That’s what the Friar Laurence says to her. At least he says that if he has a back up plan. He can also try to think of a harmless plan. For example, he can talk to Capulet and Paris. However, some people can think the family of Capulet has to blame the most but it’s not. The way Lord Capulet forces Juliet to marry is wrong but the reason for marriage is based on love of their daughter, Juliet. Therefore, Friar Laurence’s incorrect plan is related to Juliet’s death.

In every plan, the variable can happen. Friar Laurence irresponsibly doesn’tconsider the possibility of his plan going wrong. Capulet can cremate Juliet’s body and lock the door of the vault. As this variable, Romeo didn’t get the letter from Friar Laurence and died and Juliet is dead with Romeo. Friar Laurence needs to send up the letter carely. He should think what if his plan doesn’t work and he has to find more certain ways to tell about what happened to Romeo like a request to a servant. Additionally, he has to prepare a back up plan for many variables like go to the place that Romeo lives and pick him up to Juliet’s vault. Moreover, he leaves Juliet alone at the vault. Even he can stay with Juliet. He is scared about the police and prince.”Come, go, good Juliet. I dare no longer stay. / Go, get thee hence, for I will not way.”(5.3.165-166) He wants to achieve his goal which is to solve the feud of Montague and Capulet but he is scared about other people and because he leaves the vault, Juliet can kill herself. Friar Laurence gives time to Juliet to kill herself.

Overall, Though Friar Laurence is not the only person responsible for Juliet’s death, Friar Laurence definitely holds the most responsibility. If he had been careless about his scheme and taken more responsibility for his result Juliet would have still been alive. Romeo and Juliet is not the only tragedy of the story. Many people think how overpowering love can be but it’s more about when people follow one person’s advice.
