Some people advocate death penalty for those who committed violent crimes. Others say that capital punishment is unacceptable in contemporary society.
Describe advantages and disadvantages of death penalty and give your opinion.
For thousands of years, people have been practicing capital punishment, often in addition to executing felons. But in the 21st century, many countries are abolishing the death penalty.
The death penalty prevents additional crimes. Many people are scared and anxious about the possibility of further crimes by felons, and for that reason, towns where felons live are often places where people don’t want to live. But the death penalty prevents further crimes by felons, which means that the death penalty puts people at ease and makes the world a better place. Moreover, the death penalty is in line with justice. People who commit crimes, especially murder, deserve to die for what they have done. A felony like murder is morally reprehensible and causes tremendous guilt and grief to the victim’s family, and the offender deserves to be held accountable for dying.
While the death penalty does prevent further crimes, there are more moral ways to prevent further crimes. For example, a sentence of 100 years in prison. In the United States, the government protects citizens from the threat of further crimes by imposing the severe penalty of a lifetime in prison instead of the death penalty. Furthermore, the death penalty can be wrongly executed due to the mistake. The death penalty decisions are made by humans in the Supreme Court, and humans sometimes make mistakes. If the Supreme Court makes a mistake according to the mistake, an innocent person dies, and people can not simply be held materially responsible.
In conclusion, the death penalty has to be abolished unconditionally because of the moral deterrence of further crimes and the risk of mistakes in judgment. There are many ways to effectively punish criminals without using the death penalty, which is another crime. Thus, the death penalty has to be prohibited.
